It’s a vast understatement to say that the pandemic has sharply impacted local businesses. And while restaurants and bars come to mind, think also of local attorneys, accountants, Realtors, and consultants who are now faced with a clientele that’s not interested in popping into the office for a meeting.
I’m guessing a lot of you are already working remotely, serving clients from all over in addition to some locals. The type of businesses I mentioned earlier need to adapt to digital, and that’s the advice JC Hite channels over at Entrepreneur.
With customers at home, word-of-mouth referrals will start to decrease for the service sector as a result of unusual interaction. For this reason, it’s more important than ever for service businesses to reach customers through new channels and streamline their purchase experience.
Easier said than done, even though it may seem easy to us. And I think that’s the opportunity for freelance writers, designers, and digital marketing consultants/agencies.
You can easily target local businesses with Facebook ads. Or, build a local general email list delivering content relevant to the community, and then reach out to, say, local attorneys who do estate planning, business transactions, and bankruptcy and tell them you can provide a turn-key solution — advice and an audience.
Perhaps you can adapt your business by helping other local businesses adapt. There’s no doubt it’s needed.
